Academic Advisory Changes  (effective January 31)

New Prague High School will be altering the second semester academic advisory schedule in order to better meet the needs of students struggling most in classes and rewarding those who are meeting and/or exceeding classroom expectations.

Academic Advisory will be moved to each Wednesday from 7:40 - 8:20 followed by the seven classes. Teachers will assign any student getting a D or an F in their class to an academic advisory session. Students will be expected to attend in order to get the support they need to be more successful in all their classes. Students not assigned to a session will be expected to be in the building no later than 8:20 a.m. with the first period starting at 8:25 a.m. The day will still end at 2:32 p.m. with buses running a normal schedule for the day.

Additional details of the new academic advisory schedule:

  • Students assigned to a teacher that do not attend will receive an unexcused absence and consequences from administration.
  • Buses will run as usual, providing the transportation needed to get students here for their session.
  • Students may still sign up to attend a teacher’s session if there is space available, but they will not be required to be in attendance if a teacher has not assigned them.
  • The media center will be available for a quiet work place for students who arrive before 8:20 a.m.
  • The commons will house those students not assigned and wanting a place to be with friends.
  • Students will be able to complete redos and retakes in the lecture hall at this time.

The goal of academic advisory is to provide the additional support some students need to be successful in their classes. These changes will hopefully better serve those students in need of that support.
