Language Arts

I expect students to read at least 20 minutes 5 days per week (totaling 100 minutes per week).  Practicing reading is the best way to improve in reading and comprehension.

Book Resource options:

-2 books/week from Raven Stream Media Center

     - Visit the New Pragure Public Library

     - 1 book from our classroom library may be brought home to read if student asks Mrs. Gearing

I expect students to work on their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts at home regularly.  This is a simple way for these basic facts to become more automatic.  Automaticity is very important and helpful when students begin problem solving multi-step problems.

There are numerous websites (linked on my Symbaloo page) that students can practice math skills.

XtraMath - Math fact practice used in class and can be continued at home for free (complete 3 times/week)  (A parent letter will be sent home during the first week of school on how to sign up (for free) for XtraMath on your computer at home.)

Flashcards - Use in place of XtraMath if there isn't access to the internet at home (BONUS: They can easily be brought "on the go" with you and your family!)
