All About Me

I graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelors degree in
elementary education. Shortly after graduating I moved to MN and
began my teaching career. I have experience working with special needs,
gifted and talented, and mainstream students in a variety of classroom
settings. I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to be able to teach full time
in the New Prague school district for the past 9 years. Before that, I spent
7 years as a substitute teacher for the New Prague District. Substitute
teaching allowed me the opportunity to spend time raising my children and
continue to stay current and involved in all the new teaching theories and
practices. Prior to my substitute teaching, I was a full time 4th grade
teacher in Vermillion, MN.

I've lived in Elko New Market with my husband and 2 children since 2001.
My daughter is in 10th grade at New Prague High School and my son is a freshman at the U of M.
I am very excited to be teaching in a school where I am also a member of the community,
and I look forward to seeing my students outside the classroom. Aside from teaching, I
enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, gardening, traveling, and watching football. I'm looking forward to another fabulous year in 3rd grade! Take care! Christine Orth

My Philosophy of Education

I believe that each child is a unique individual, who needs a stable,
nurturing, and stimulating environment to grow and mature. It is my goal as
an educator to help each child reach their full potential by establishing a
classroom environment where children feel secure and supported when taking
risks, sharing new ideas, and inquiring about new information. I believe the
keys to establishing this environment include; building a sense of team among
students and teachers, encouraging mutual respect for everyone's feelings,
ideas, and beliefs, and sharing with the students in the ownership of the
classroom curriculum. By establishing these key components, among many
others, I will be able to help my students become successful, responsible,
and inquisitive individuals who possess a love of learning and a passion for
