About the Teacher

Welcome to 3rd grade!

We are prepared to take an exciting journey as we get ready for 3rd grade and beyond.  Our classroom theme this year is "Learning Takes Us Places!"

This fall will start my 17th year of teaching. WOWZA!  In August, I will be starting my ninth year at Raven Stream.  Some of you may recognize or know  me from my time on the 5th grade team at Raven Stream as the previous eight years I have been a 5th grade teacher in the building.  When the opportunity presented itself to move down to 3rd grade, I  decided that it was a good time to make a switch.  I loved my time in 5th grade, but realized both professionally and personally that CHANGE IS GOOD!  I am very excited to begin a new chapter of my teaching career this fall in 3rd!

I have lived in New Prague the last 15 years with my husband, Adam, and children. Erin is a 8th grader, Carly is a 7th grader, and Isaac is in 1st grade.  We enjoy time together as a family by going to baseball games, camping in the beautiful State Parks in Minnesota, road tripping around the U.S. and traveling up North to see family.

I received my elementary education and special education teaching license from Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I then went on to receive my Master's of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary's University of Minnesota. I have also completed the program for my K-12 Principal's license as well.  As you can see, I love being a student myself!!

My teaching passion lies in the area of social studies!  invite the students to join me as we travel back in time from early civilization up to our current time.   3rd graders will learn to think like a historian, analyze historical documents and artifacts, and will learn what it means to be a citizen of the U.S. They will expand their geographical knowledge of where in the world are we in comparison to land forms, counties and major cities.   By incorporating hands on investigations,  using literature rich resources, role playing, and my overall excitement for social studies education,  history will come to life for your child.  Hopefully your child will leave 3rd grade with a newfound excitement for all the domains of social studies!

I have a passion for learning and try to allow my students to find his or her excitement for learning as well. Within my classroom, students will be accepted, appreciated, nurtured, and challenged according to their individual needs.  A partnership between school, parents and students is a must! I will be sending home a "Week at a Glance" update through email so you are always aware of what we are doing in class for the following week.   I'm looking forward to an exciting year in 3rd grade! Together we can make this year successful for your son or daughter! Please contact me with questions or concerns!
