Strategies to Improve Fluency and Comprehension

*Have students re-read the same passage/story multiple times
*Encourage the student to read the same story with different emotions. Ex: feeling sad, mad, happy, etc.
*Partner reading: take turns reading pages or even ever other word.

While reading, stop periodically and ask students questions to check for understanding (). If the student does not know the answers, have them re-read. It is also possible the story is too difficult for them in which case you should choose an easier story.
