Tips When Listening to Your Child Read

*Make sure the child stops at periods and pauses at commas.

*If the child does not know a word, guide the child through sounding it out. See if he/she can break it down into pieces or chunks. Then have him/her read that sentence over again.

*Make sure the child is reading the correct words that are printed.

*Watch to see if any words are being left out. If a word is left out have the child look at it again and read it over.

*Make sure endings of words are being read.
