Peek at Our Week

Feb. 3, 2019

After a crazy week, I'm hoping we have a "normal" week at school. I saw lots of evidence of learning at home, but I'd much rather be teaching the students in the classroom. : )

February is "I Love to Read" month - The first grade goal is to read 75 minutes each week. Turn in slips every Thursday for a chance to win a free book.  Students who meet the reading goal all 4 weeks will earn extra recess when it warms up and also have a chance to participate in the Raven Stream Minute to Win It  Games. Fun dress up days include:

  • Tues. Feb. 5 - Wear neon - Reading Makes Your Bright!
  • Tues. Feb. 12 - Wear sports team gear - Team Up to Read (Note: This is also our field trip day)
  • Tues. Feb. 14 - Wear workout clothes - Reading Exercises Your Brain
  • Tues. Feb. 19 - Wear red, white and blue - Read, White, and Blue Day

*Help! Mystery Readers Needed for I Love to Read Month- Every school day in February from 11:40-noon, I am hoping to get a mystery guest reader to read a fun or favorite book to our class. See the Sign Up Genius link . Not many people have signed up.

Kids Heart Challenge - The American Heart Association has changed the name of Jump Rope For Heart to Kids Heart Challenge. This will be Raven Stream's 8th year participating in the event. Last year we raised almost $14,000 for the AHA, which helps save lives. It is important to remember that the fundraising portion is completely optional. However, even if students do not fundraise they can still participate by taking their own heart healthy challenge. Paperwork is going home today and all money is due Feb. 21.

Valentine's Party - Our Valentine's party is on Thursday, February 14th. If you are interested in helping out, let me know. A party note and class list will be coming home on Monday.

Scholastic Book Orders -  Due Tuesday, Feb. 5th

Photo Gallery - Check out pictures of our class .

* Please remember your child works hard all day at following directions, listening, learning and playing. Please help your child by getting a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast every day.
